Housed in the 1905 original Carnegie Library building, this museum offers exhibits and photographs that highlight the region's history, growth, important personalities and development. Furnishings, clothing and toys on display at Hanford's Carnegie Museum tell the stories of bygone days. Recalling memories for adult visitors and instructing young minds concerning the ways in which life used to enjoyed "long ago." Many libraries constructed through the gain of grants from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation have fallen by the wayside throughout our nation. Some, constructed of wood perished in fires, while others were merely razed to make room for what was thought to be more importantly needed structures. Visiting architects at one time to our city, commented that the Carnegie Museum is thought to be a "best example of Romanesque (style) architecture in the state to California outside the Stanford University Campus"! The museum is located at 108 East Eighth Street and is open from Wednesday thru Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. For special occasion meetings or tours, phone (559)584-1367. |
