Depending upon the time of year you wish to film, Hanford can provide much for your future productions. We have the look of a small town America, a mid-western aura, the old fashioned town square, homes - Victorian or modern, homes of the 30's, 40's, & 50's, farms and barns, dairies, fruit and nut orchards, cotton or corn fields, packing plants, farm equipment in use, rural atmosphere, a horse ranch with appropriate attachments, sheep, vineyards, railroad tracks, milling operations, turn of the century and earlier structures, Chinese influences including a museum and artifacts, Taoist Temple building, a county fairgrounds with stock pens, sprint and midget racing track, grandstand, a small town airport with 4,000 foot runway, security services, catering services, medical services, new and old government buildings, the historic 1929 Fox Theater, a turn of the century carousel, a 1905 Carnegie Library converted to a town museum, a modern art center with gallery, and the usual and unique fire stations, antique vehicles, parks, swimming pools, schools, football stadium, vacant lots, parking lots, ball fields, the Bastille (old county jail, built in 1897), the old Courthouse - built in 1896 and the Civic Auditorium - built in 1929. No town would be a town without its residents. Hanford people have shown an interest in working as extras and production assistants...whatever your needs might include, we stand ready to assist. If it isn't here, perhaps we might be able to locate it for you. The Hanford Visitor Agency is the city's designated agency to assist, facilitate and coordinate film production in Hanford. It is the agency's role to provide the vital link between the community and the production industry. The agency will do everything possible to assist with locations, settings, buildings, services, resources and people. In 1994, the City of Hanford issued a welcoming proclamation to the film industry, which in part reads: "The City Council and the people of Hanford are proud of its preserved historic past, its uniqueness and a variety of buildings and locations in and around Hanford conductive to film productions. Whereas, the City Council and the people of Hanford are proud to welcome visitors to this area, and the share the pleasures of our way of life. The City Council recognizes the Hanford Visitor Agency as our film industry liaison and whereas, the City Council and the people of Hanford recognize filming as a culturally enriching and satisfying experience for film watchers. The City Council of Hanford salutes and recognizes the filming industry for its past activity in Hanford and for its valuable economic contributions to Hanford." With these proclamations, the City of Hanford welcomes future film companies to using our town as their film production's back drop. In the fall of 1996, The Visitor Agency in conjunction with the Madera County Film Commission, hosted their first annual 2-day "FAM" Tour for location managers and a representative of the California Film Commission. The location managers took hundreds of photographs of numerous buildings, settings and location possibilities for film productions or commercials. The location managers expressed many positive comments about all the location possibilities they has seen on the 2-day tour. |
