Hanford's Historic Points of Interest
Veteran's Memorial Building

Built in 1925 to honor our WWI veterans. The double brick construction with steel lath in between made it an early earth-quake safe facility. Originally stained glass says American Legion Post3. San Francisco was #1, Coalinga was #2. The German cannons are from WWI. They were hidden during WWII to protect them from scrap metal drives. They used to be fired at the beginning of parades and other special events, but are now plugged. The building was renovated in 1979 to equip it for shared use between veteran's organization and our local senior citizens.
